Fashion maven and known trendsetter, Kanye West dominates almost any scene he walks onto wearing garments emphasizing bold colors, striking features, and undeniable class. He is without question a fashion icon, but his 19 year old stylist, Cassius Clay, is partially responsible.
A sophomore with an art history major at Yale University, Cassius was working at Barneys New York when he was discovered.
He tells the
Huffington Post, "someone tapped him on the shoulder and commented on the way he was dressed. The man was Kanye West, and after a short conversation and an exchange of email addresses, an unlikely relationship developed between the rapper and the Art History major."
He has since then decided to take a leave from his student life at Yale and become a full time creative consultant to Kanye. Drawing inspiration from other great, even legendary stylist, Cassius looks up to the styling of Anna Della Russo, Brana Wolf, and even the icon Grace Coddington of Vogue.
With his father in his 80's and his mother in her 60's, they are not truly into the sounds of Kanye West, however, he tells
Just Jared.com "my mother made a Twitter account to follow Kanye (not me) and I've found both
Graduation and
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in my father's car."
In a world today where so many people try to be like others, Cassius just remained himself and he ended up grabbing the attention of a world known celebrity who admired his style. We are ever changing but we should never drift to far from who we really are.
People are being discovered everyday. Who knows, anyone of us could be the next Cassius Clay..
