Über Talk: [Part 2] Surviving In PR - Women In PR Summit
We’re back again with Day 4 of PR tips from the pros! We hope you’re taking good notes because we definitely did! The knowledge we gained from the Women In PR conference was great for all PR lovers—whether you are new to game or have been here for a while! Check out the tips for the day here!
1)Press Releases: Know Why You’re Writing One! –Don’t let your press release become boring and irrelevant to editors. You want to use this as your time to expand and give background info about your client while making sure the info is RELEVANT! Don’t overwhelm the editor. Research each source and personalize a page of relevancy of your client's work to the editor’s target audience.
2)Overserve Your Clients – Do all you can for your clients—while still remaining within your limits. But be sure to know where to draw the line. If you don’t, you could end up allowing your client to run over you and ultimately ruin your media outlets and reputation!
3)Client Expectations – Be sure your client has expectations that are realistic. Don’t promise them an event sponsored by Ciroc and hosted by P.Diddy when you know the only contact you have is for Jungle Juice and Coolio. C’mon, now!
4)Deem Yourself An Expert – No one will take you seriously if you don’t. Be confident in your work and others will too. Spend time working on your image and brand—it's everything!
5)Create Your Own Opportunity – Use your smarts to make an event as great as it can be. Use cross-promotion to your advantage. If you’re having an event at a car dealership, don’t leave it at just that. Use your media contacts to get models, cigars, artists, etc. to join the event. This will open doors to future work. Make it HUGE!
